BECAUSE PROTECTING WHAT MATTERS TODAY CAN MAKE TOMORROW EASIER.
Having appropriate insurance protection can provide valuable financial support if you or your partner were to experience an unexpected serious illness, injury or death.
If you were to suffer a serious injury or be diagnosed with a serious or critical illness, the right protection could help you continue meeting your family's essential financial commitments, depending on the terms and conditions of your policy.
It can also provide financial support for your family if you were to die prematurely, helping them manage household expenses, mortgage commitments, debts and other financial responsibilities.
The level and type of protection you need will depend on your individual circumstances, financial commitments, objectives and budget.
Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Life insurance may be appropriate if your death could have a financial impact on the people who depend on you, such as your partner, children or other family members.
The amount of cover and length of the policy should reflect your individual circumstances and the financial protection you want to provide.
For example, you may choose a policy term that lasts until your children reach a particular age, until your mortgage is repaid, or for another period that matches your financial commitments and objectives.
Depending on the insurer and product available, you may be able to choose cover that lasts until a specified age, such as 70 or 90, although maximum ages and policy terms vary between providers.
Alternatively, Whole of Life Insurance is designed to provide cover for your lifetime, provided the policy remains in force and you continue to meet the required premium payments. A valid claim can result in a payment following your death, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
The most suitable type and length of cover will depend on your individual circumstances, needs and objectives.
If you are unsure how much life insurance you may need or how long you should have it, please contact us and we can discuss your requirements.
Yes. Having company sick pay does not necessarily prevent you from taking out income protection insurance.
Income protection can be arranged with a deferred period that is designed to work alongside your existing employer sick pay arrangements.
For example, if your employer provides sick pay for three months, you may be able to choose a three-month deferred period so that, if you remain unable to work after that period, your income protection policy may begin paying a monthly benefit, subject to the policy terms and the insurer's definition of incapacity.
The benefit can help you maintain your financial commitments while you are unable to work, such as mortgage or rent payments, household bills and other essential expenses.
The length of time the benefit can be paid depends on the policy. Some policies may pay for a specified maximum period, while others may provide benefits for longer periods, subject to the policy terms.
Your existing sick pay arrangements, income and individual circumstances should be considered when selecting the appropriate deferred period and level of income protection.
If you would like to find out how income protection could work alongside your employer's sick pay, please contact us.
Your new adviser will not normally have authority to cancel your existing insurance policies, as these are held with your current insurer.
If you are considering replacing an existing policy, it is important not to cancel your current cover until your new policy has been accepted, put in force and you are satisfied that the new cover is active and appropriate for your needs.
Once your new policy is in force, you will normally need to contact your existing insurance provider directly to request cancellation of your old policy.
Your existing insurer may have its own cancellation process and may require confirmation from you before the policy is cancelled.
We recommend that you do not cancel your existing policy or stop the Direct Debit until you have confirmed with your existing insurer that the policy has been properly cancelled and you understand any applicable cancellation terms or charges.
If you are replacing an existing policy, we can help you understand the new cover and explain the differences between your existing and proposed protection so that you can make an informed decision.
Moving abroad does not necessarily mean that you have to cancel your existing insurance. For many life and serious or critical illness policies, cover may continue after you move to another country, subject to the insurer's terms, conditions and any country-specific restrictions.
If you are planning to move abroad permanently, it is important to contact us before you move so that we can check the conditions of your particular policy and confirm whether any changes are required.
If you need to make a claim after moving abroad, the insurer may require supporting documents, such as a death certificate or medical evidence. Documents issued in another language may need to be officially translated into English, depending on the insurer's requirements.
WHAT ABOUT INCOME PROTECTION?
Income Protection can have different rules when you move abroad. Some insurers may restrict or suspend payments depending on the country you move to, how long you intend to remain there and the circumstances of your claim.
For this reason, it is particularly important to contact us before moving abroad so that we can check your policy and discuss whether your cover can continue or whether any changes may be necessary.
Do not assume that your insurance will automatically continue simply because you continue paying the premium from a UK bank account. Always check with your adviser and insurer before moving permanently abroad.
We are happy to review your existing protection and explain what you need to consider before you relocate.
Some insurance providers offer temporary or free protection cover for eligible mortgage applicants while their mortgage application and house purchase are progressing.
Where this option is available, the cover may provide protection during the period before your new mortgage is completed and you receive the keys to your new home, subject to the insurer's eligibility criteria, terms and conditions.
We can check whether this type of cover is available to you and explain exactly what is included, how long the free cover lasts and what happens once your mortgage completes.
We do not charge a broker fee for arranging your mortgage protection insurance.
As with our other insurance advice, we are normally paid a commission by the insurance provider if you proceed with a recommended insurance product. We will explain how we are paid before you commit to proceed.
We have access to a wide range of insurance providers and will search the available market to identify an option that is appropriate for your circumstances and needs.
Please contact us to find out whether you qualify for temporary free mortgage protection cover.
If you operate through a limited company and you are a director or key employee, certain types of insurance protection may be arranged and paid for by the company.
However, the tax treatment depends on the type of insurance, the purpose of the cover, who is insured, who receives the benefit and how the policy is structured.
For example, specific business protection solutions such as Relevant Life Insurance or certain Executive Income Protection arrangements may have different tax treatment from personal insurance policies.
It is therefore important to establish whether the cover is being arranged for personal protection, employee benefit or business protection before deciding how it should be paid for.
We can explain the available insurance options and how they are generally structured. However, we do not provide tax advice, so we recommend that you speak to your accountant or an appropriate tax adviser to confirm whether the premiums are an allowable business expense in your particular circumstances.
Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change in the future.
